- Concrete Older Than 25–30 Years: Aging concrete loses internal compressive strength and cannot reliably support bonding overlays.
In freeze-thaw climates, moisture penetrates the thin seam between the old concrete and the new overlay. During the first hard freeze, expanding ice pops the resurfacing layer clean off.
